About

Melanie Witt smiles and poses for self portrait in front of photographs

Hiya! I am Melanie, and I’d love to work with you!

I’m an animal crazy, sun lovin, patio chilin’, wine sippin’, adventure seekin’, romance cravin’ Colorado born pawrent traveling through this crazy life with mi amor, my two pups Rolo and Ruby, and my camera.

I have been obsessed with animals since I was a kid and have had pets my whole life. Pets are more than animals to me, and I love them as my children. As an adult, my husband and I foster dogs and puppies for three local rescues, and weekends and free time involve our dogs as much as possibly allowed. My husband, my two rescue hounds Rolo and Ruby, and our senior cat Bea Arthur live 5 miles from Downtown Denver.

Rolo & Ruby

Meet my little lovies Rolo my Shepard hound boy and Ruby the Foxhound Beagle mix. They bring joy and play to our lives.

Both pups are rescues. Rolo is from 4Paws4Life and Ruby is from Life is Better. They were both fosters that we couldn’t resist adding to our permanent family.

Capturing memories through the lens is pure magic for me! I still get chills and giddy to the point of jumping up and down when I capture something truly incredible. It is something I have been doing proudly since I was a wee one. From toting around a small point a shoot camera as a 1st grader, with my dog Taffy right by side, to capturing raw emotion in the face of a silly black mouth cur, to Rolo’s sweet head tilts when I ask him where the cat is, to the soft chittering when Ruby hears her wobble ball. I simply LOVE how photographs transform our pets and our hearts.

I am forever grateful that my dad passed down his Pentax SLR and a handful of lenses when I was around 8 or 9 years old. I began to look at everything through the lens, even when a camera wasn’t in my hand. I began studying photography in 7th grade and started processing my own film and prints in a darkroom. I studied photojournalism in Hawaii as an undergrad and shot sports photojournalism and promotions photography for a local concert venue and a clear channel radio station. My life, as many of ours do, took me on another journey where I have focused on another love of mine – teaching (for more than 15 years I’ve been teaching). In 2019, I opened my own photography business and got fully back into photography, whether it has been portraiture, weddings, engagements, food and travel, or interior design. In 2020, I started doing pet photography. Something always calls me back to my love as a professional photographer. I am grateful for all the adventures I have had in life and am THRILLED to call photography my profession once again.

MY SHOOTING STYLE: While I love variety, my favorite is photojournalistic and in details. I am ignited with a new passion for studio pet photography. My favorite memories involve my camera, my loved ones, and movement – capturing moments as they happen on journeys but in stolen moments and small details. I did not plan on starting my career in sports photojournalism and concerts, but I loved it. It taught me how to shoot wide and tight in appropriate moments while capturing action. I love photographing pets, small details, design, and food and drinks. Check out my galleries and reach out. Let’s sit down in person or virtually with a glass of vino, cerveza, tea, or coffee to talk story.
